First Jutsu to learn:

Name: Kanashibari No Jutsu (Body Freeze Technique)
Rank: D
Element: N/A
Description:
A Ninjutsu technique where the ninja stares down their opponent, causing them to become completely frozen in their tracks. Perfect for escaping a dire situation, or for stalling a target in an assassination. First performed by Orochimaru in chapter forty-nine. Anko and various Anbu can use this technique. One of Jiraiya's frogs used this technique in chapter one hundred and twenty-four.)
----------

Kanashibari No Jutsu. Shunsuu had seen one of the Anbu perform it. Oh, it was quite a simple technique but definitely a useful one. A piercing glance that is able to temporarily freeze your opponent and allowing you to press your advantage.

Yesterday, he had asked his sensei to tell him the basics of such a jutsu. He had of course, worked it out himself, a combination of careful manipulation of chakra while staring down your opponent. The actual paralyzation effect however, was much harder to achieve.

Shunsuu chuckled slightly, he was determined to learn that jutsu and he stood still, perfectly still for a few seconds. As a genin, he had mastered the moulding of chakra to some extent and now he was practising it again. It was necessary to get a grasp of the basics before one attempted something harder.

He was at a small pond with several frogs in it and it was the perfect oppotunity to test out the jutsu he was practising. He muttered "Kanashibari No Jutsu," quickly and stared into the frog, waiting to see if the frog could still move.

The frog croaked, still for a second or two before jumping back into the water. It seems that the technique had not worked perfectly, the paralyzation effect was still too short, even on a frog and it could still croak. Hiro sat down for a few seconds. He would have to figure out a way to maximise the potential of the jutsu.

The frog had definitely not moved for two seconds but it still croaked. There had to be a reason why it didn't work perfectly. Manipulation of chakra.... Staring down your opponent... He thought quickly, images flashing in his mind. That was it. The combination of the two had to work in sync and in a way, he would have to make sure his stare was more than just a stare. A scary stare would help of couse.

He stood up again, facing the pond and the croaking frogs. Closing his eyes, he carefully focused on moulding the spiritual and physical energy inside his body to form chakra to be used for the jutsu. Suddenly, he opened his eyes again, in sync with using his chakra and stared at one of the frogs intently. it attempted to croak but failed and sat frozen for 3 seconds before moving off again.

Shunsuu grinned. That was a success. He had gotten the basics of using the jutsu, it was just a question of making it more effective. Making a frog frozen for 3 seconds is about equivalent to making a human frozen for less than half a second. The question was, whether he should move on to a larger target or somehow attempt to amplify the effect without doing so.

He stared at the frog once more, this time attempting to keep it still for longer, keeping his stare fierce and using a little bit more concentration. He almost chuckled and wondered what other people would think of this training.
The frog went still once more and then moved off after 3 seconds, exactly like last time.

Shunsuu frowned and sat on the grass once more. Of course, he should try it again with using more chakra - it seemed that when he froze the frogs he used a very small amount of chakra, it was therefore necessary to mould more chakra for the jutsu to extend the effect.

Once more, he stood up and moulded his chakra - this time, twice as much for the same jutsu. Keeping everything in sync, he stared at the same frog which froze once more. It sat still on a lily for about four seconds before jumping and croaking off into the water, the splashes hitting Shunsuu in the face.

Shunsuu cursed the frog and wiped the dirty pond water on his face with his sleeves. This training was certainly troublesome. By using twice as much chakra - he had only managed to increase the paralyzation time by one second. Clearly, the increase of chakra made very little difference on the actual effect of the jutsu. It was the efficiency that was the key. The question once more, how would he be able to increase the efficiency of the jutsu.

The concept was simple. Make every bit of chakra useful and used in the effect of the jutsu. The application was slightly harder. He had managed to perform the jutsu in sync with his body movements and the stare, that had certainly helped the effiency but there was something lacking. That was all that seemed possible to do and he still hadn't quite amplified the effects.
There was a missing puzzle in the jutsu.

Again, images and memories of the frozen frog flashed back before his head. He stared, frog frozen but croaked. In sync, frog couldn't croak but still froze. Stare - frozen, stare - frozen and using more chakra made little difference. Therefore, the effiency of the jutsu must therefore lie between the stare and the paralyzation of the frog.

So, what was between the process of the stare and the paralyzation of the frog? The frog did what he wanted to do and Hiro merely stared at it to freeze it. There was something missing. Ah. Quite simple really. A link or connection had to be made. Something direct would be neccessary to ensure a high efficency of the jutsu effect.

A link or connection....of course. The opponent needed to make eye contact. It was quite simple really - eye contact would no doubt increase both the focus of the jutsu and the effiency of the jutsu. Strangely enough, the same concept was in the application of some genjutsu. Eye contact is often key, a useful medium for focus and for genjutsu, the quick transfer of the user's chakra into the opponent's nervous system.

Strangely enough, although the technique was ninjutsu, it seemed that some of its bare concepts lay in genjutsu. The paralyzation technique was real of course but some genjutsu did the same except the effect was in the mind. Shunsuu grinned, knowing he had finally figured out how to improve the jutsu. He decided to try again. This time, the frog was frozen for around 12 seconds. It was good, but of course the effect would be far lessened on an actual ninja. Nevertheless, it would just be a matter of practise before he could do it properly.

Second Jutsu to learn:

Jutsu Name: Karasu Bunshin No Jutsu -(Crow Clone Technique)
Rank: C
Element: N/A
Description: This jutsu appears to be similar to the Mizubunshin Technique, with the exception that after the clone has been destroyed the the body will disperse into a flock of crows, which can continue to speak and maintain a physical form. Itachi was able to cast his Sharingan Genjutsu while in clone form, so it is likely no more limited than other such clone techniques.

-------------------------------------

Crows. Black birds, they are said to be one of the most intelligent species of bird around. Their distinctive caw, has always earned them a degree of enmity or infamousness and they often represented the harbringers of doom and death. They were a truly interesting species and right now, it was he, Shunsuu who was wondering at them with interest while holding up a book on jutsu.

Karasu Bunshin No Jutsu. The crow clone technique. Deadly useful and also aesthetically pleasing. True, there were some circumstances where the water clone fared better but it was also far more chakra conserving due to the fact that there was no need for a water source. He read the instructions carefully and began to close his eyes.

He focused inside of himself, repeating a process that he was now fully attuned to. Moulding new chakra and utilising it to form a jutsu by using his handseals. Shunsuu breathed in and out deeply, and then clasped his hands, as he began a series of clean movements.

"Karasu Bunshin No Jutsu!"

In that instant and in a flash, black crows appeared and the next second a replica of Shunsuu appeared. From the looks, it was like any other typical clone technique - it was real and it could use jutsu and of course, when damaged enough, it would disperse.

"Charge!" called out Shunsuu to the clone, although of course it was entirely unnecessary.

The crow clone charged forward, and the dust picked up. As it sprinted, suddenly it dispersed back into the black crows that formed it. Shunsuu sighed and looked at his hands. Something had gone wrong even though he had done everything correctly in terms of procedure and yet the clones were still not as durable as the actual jutsu itself.

Perhaps it was merely just a matter of not practising it enough, or perhaps it was something to do with the chakra itself, that is, how well it was moulded and what the ratio of the physical and spiritual energy was. Shunsuu scratched his head for a moments and then began to form the same hand seals, this time he was going to mould more chakra than usual while decreasing the physical energy and increasing the spiritual energy when moulding.

"Karasu Bunshin No Jutsu," said Shunsuu as he completed his hand seals. The crow clone appeared instantly, a perfect replica of Hiro and physically tangible too. He repeated his instructions once more and the Karasu Bunshin began to charge and ran around.

This time, it didn't disipate and Shunsuu grinned. The reason that the clone was not as durable was probably due to two reasons, firstly the ratio of physical energy to spiritual energy in the chakra and the lack of chakra moulded for the technique. The first reason was important because too much physical energy had a bad effect on the clone, weakening it on the inside while strengthing its tangibility on the outside. The second reason automatically made the clone less strong due to its very construction, thus making it dissipate when both factors were combined.
